‘The Internet’ in 1994

 PE Hub posted an interesting 1994 clip from NBC News focused on something called “The Internet”.

It’s amazing to see Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt and others discuss the burgeoning network and discuss how they thought it would evolve over time.  In fact, watching the clip reminds me of the well-regarded notion that people often overestimate what is going to happen in the next two years and underestimate what is going to happen in the next ten years.  This concept is evident in the clip and we, as venture capitalists contend with it frequently when partnering with entrepreneurs in helping to build their companies.

When The Going Gets Tough…Keep Going

I recently attended an interesting talk by Dutch Leonard, a professor at Harvard Business School.  The presentation examined what we can learn about managing through difficult times and crises from explorers who found themselves in grave peril for extended periods and survived.

Specifically, the talk centered on explorer Ernest Shackleton who is widely recognized as having endured one of the greatest survival stories ever told.
